Teach the Word
David Platt, 2025-11-05

… Your word is truth. You protect yourself from the adversary through the word. And the disciples had seen this modeled. Remember back in Matthew chapter 4, verse 1 through 11? Jesus was tempted three times face to face with the evil one, with the devil. He's tempted three times. Every single time he's tempted, he says the exact same thing in response. What does he say? He says, it is written, And then he quotes from the Old Testament. It is written. He quotes from the Old Testament. Now, here's the question. Think about it with me. Jesus is tempted three times. Each time he says, it is written, quotes from the Old Testament. Do you think that in those circumstances, those temptations, he had to quote Scripture in order to ward off that temptation? Do you think it was necessary for him to quote Scripture? I don't think it was. I think Jesus was the kind of guy who could say anything at that point and it would become scripture he had that kind of power he says anything and we've got red letters written in our Bible just like that, he's that good he could say anything at that point, it would become scripture did he have to quote scripture? no, I think Jesus is setting an example there for us that in order to be pure, in order to show the character of God, in order to do this disciplining thing, the Word must be at the center of your life. …

John K. Jenkins Sr., 2025-04-02

… set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, if you are the son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written, he shall give his angels charge over you and in their hands they shall bear you up lest you dash your foot against a stone. Jesus said to him, what did he say? It is written, there it is again. He's quoting the scriptures back to, he's quoting the temptation. And some of y'all get the devil tempting you and you'll be trying to defeat the enemy and resist the enemy by your own strength rather than getting a word from God, a rhema word from God, and saying, here's what the Scripture says. It is written. You shall not tempt the Lord your God, as he says, verse 7. You shall not tempt the Lord your God, verse 8. Again, the devil took him up on an exceedingly high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, all these things I will give you if you will fall down and worship me. …

… and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. If you are the son of God, he said, throw yourself down, for it's written, he will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands. Small footnote here, the enemy thought, well, that was a good plan. I came at him with one, and he came back with scripture, so I'm gonna come at him with another one, and then I'm gonna come with scripture. I'm just gonna take it out of context. And Jesus said, it is also written. In other words, make sure you're reading the whole scripture, not just a verse of it. Do not put the Lord your God to the test. Deuteronomy. Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. All this I will give you, he said, if you will bow down and worship me. Hello.
