… We'll look at Matthew 18. I mean, Matthew 14, chapter eight, 14, verse eight. That's what I wanted to say. And it said, again, the devil took him up. This is Jesus on an exceedingly high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, all these things I'll give you if you look at this ball down and worship. Hold on. Are you telling me that Satan had the cojones to find Jesus, the son of God, in a vulnerable position? This is after he had been fasting for 40 days and 40 nights. And he comes to him and said, I'll give you everything. If you would bow down and do what? if this if the enemies when he had one shot the only thing he wanted was to get jesus to worship him and express his love to him what makes you think that that is not his tactic and his plan for your entire life. Let me help you understand it. …

You Can Skip This!
Steven Furtick, 2026-09-14

… strike your foot against a stone. And Jesus answered him, It is also written, Do not put the Lord your God to the test. Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. All this I will give you, he said, if you will bow down and worship me. And Jesus said to him, Away from me, Satan, for it is written, Worship the Lord your God and serve him only. Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him. The reason I don't have to stay in my wilderness is because Jesus went to his. And what the generation could not do in 40 years, Jesus did in 40 days. With God, what should take years takes days. I need somebody to shout right now. If you are glad, that you have a savior who did not skip the wilderness you have a savior that did not skip the scourging you have a savior that did not skip the mocking and because he did not skip the cross i'm coming out of this i'm coming out i'm coming out of this the last thing i do i'm coming out because he's in me i'm coming out much greater is he that lives in me than he that's in the world. You can skip this. You don't have to live in fear. …

Mike Schmitz, 2026-02-21 · Scripture reading

… He said in reply, God to the test. Then the devil took him up to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their magnificence. And he said to him, all these I shall give to you, if you will prostrate yourself and worship me. At this, Jesus said to him, get away, Satan. It is written, the Lord your God shall you worship and him alone shall you serve. Then the devil left him and behold, angels came and ministered to him. The Gospel of the Lord. I invite you to have a seat. So this Lent, this Lent we're going to be talking about stories. Obviously we have the stories of today. We have the story of Genesis. We have the story of Jesus in the wilderness. There's a story that we're going to come back to all throughout the course of Lent. It's maybe a story you know of. It's in Luke chapter 15. It's a story Jesus told, in fact. …

Teach the Word
David Platt, 2025-11-05

… Your word is truth. You protect yourself from the adversary through the word. And the disciples had seen this modeled. Remember back in Matthew chapter 4, verse 1 through 11? Jesus was tempted three times face to face with the evil one, with the devil. He's tempted three times. Every single time he's tempted, he says the exact same thing in response. What does he say? He says, it is written, And then he quotes from the Old Testament. It is written. He quotes from the Old Testament. Now, here's the question. Think about it with me. Jesus is tempted three times. Each time he says, it is written, quotes from the Old Testament. Do you think that in those circumstances, those temptations, he had to quote Scripture in order to ward off that temptation? Do you think it was necessary for him to quote Scripture? I don't think it was. I think Jesus was the kind of guy who could say anything at that point and it would become scripture he had that kind of power he says anything and we've got red letters written in our Bible just like that, he's that good he could say anything at that point, it would become scripture did he have to quote scripture? no, I think Jesus is setting an example there for us that in order to be pure, in order to show the character of God, in order to do this disciplining thing, the Word must be at the center of your life. …

The Sword of the Spirit
David Platt, 2025-09-03

… This time Jesus quotes from Deuteronomy chapter six. And then the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and all their glory. He said to him, all these I will give you if you will fall down and worship me. Jesus said to him, be gone Satan. For it is written, you shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve. He quotes again from the Old Testament. Then the devil left him and beholds, angels came and were ministering to him. This is stunning. Three times Jesus is tempted. All three times he says the same three words. It is what? Written. Then he quotes scripture. So here's the question. Did Jesus have to do that? Did he have to quote scripture? No. Jesus could have said anything at this point and it would have become what? scripture. He had that kind of power. But this is Jesus himself showing us that spiritual war revolves around God's word. And don't miss the point. When you hear and believe and obey, when you wield God's word in spiritual war, you win. How do you get the devil to leave? …

Spiritual Warfare: Part 7 - The Sword of the Spirit
John K. Jenkins Sr., 2025-04-02

… You shall not tempt the Lord your God, verse 8. Again, the devil took him up on an exceedingly high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, all these things I will give you if you will fall down and worship me. Now, that devil is a fool. A clown. Because he's going to act like he can offer... to Jesus, what Jesus created. Y'all ain't got to say amen, but I know I'm right on that. He thought that he could do that. Again, that's what he did. But Jesus said, verse 10 to him, Away with you, Satan. There it is again. For it is written, you shall worship the Lord your God and him only you shall serve. And I forgot to say this at the first service so y'all get the benefit at the second service because after the devil recognized that he was dealing with the word and he was dealing with the Logos and the Rhema. …

… Deuteronomy. Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. All this I will give you, he said, if you will bow down and worship me. Hello. Maybe somebody just snapped into the message and said, wow, I just figured out why I came to church today. because somebody, I didn't really realize it might have been him, has put me in a position that if I'll sell my soul, they promise me everything. well Jesus already had everything and he said to him away from me Satan for it is written I got my mouth on the very breath of God worship the Lord your God and serve him only and then the devil left him and angels came and attended him. is that your first go-to? Is that your second go-to? Is that your third go-to or your fourth go-to? Or is that somewhere fifth, sixth down the line or you need a friend to text you a passage? …

… But let's look at one in Matthew, chapter 4, before we officially begin the sermon. Matthew, chapter 4, verses 8 through 11. This one should be a little bit more familiar to you, both in the Bible and in your own life. Again, the Devil… You know him. God is a character who needs no introduction. Again, the Devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. "'All this I will give you,' he said, if you will bow down and worship me." Jesus said to him, "'Away from me, Satan, for it is written, Worship the Lord your God and serve him only. Verse 8 and 9 is where a lot of us have been living lately, where the Devil has been talking to us and taking us places in our minds. Verse 11 is where we want to get today by the time I'm done preaching. Verse 11 says, "'Then the Devil left him, and angels came and attended him.'" How many want to get to verse 11 by the time I finish today. …
