How to (and How Not to) Pray | Let Go of Resentment
Greg Laurie, 2026-09-30 · Scripture reading

… on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. The Lord's Prayer. So how do we pray? Here's point number one if you're taking notes. We pray to a Father in Heaven who loves us. We pray to a Father who art in Heaven. Our Father who art in Heaven. Not our vending machine who art in Heaven. Not our butler who art in Heaven. Our Father. A Father who longs communication and fellowship with us. A father who loves to bless us. He's a generous father. He's a good father. Jesus said it is your father's good pleasure to give to you the kingdom. He's not a stingy God. He's a generous God. So I come to my father. And then I say, verse nine, hallowed be your name. Hallowed be your name. It means I set God apart in my life. In other words, he is above everything else. He is Lord of all. Because if he is not Lord of all, he is not Lord at all. …

Hi, everyone. My name is Megan Del Grosso, and I'm the student ministry director here at our Resurrection Leawood location. And I'm so excited to get to share with you today. My husband, Mike, and I moved here five years ago with our two kids, Caden and Victoria. And when we moved here five years ago, they were going into preschool and kindergarten. And now they are going into second and fifth grade and time has flown. And in that time, a lot has changed in our lives and a lot has changed in our student ministry. In 2023, the last time I got to share with you, we talked about passing our faith on to the next generation and what that would look like in our student ministry. And we dreamed about the growth potential and all the ways that we could support students here at Resurrection and in the community. And we've experienced a massive amount of growth since then. In the last two years alone, we've grown 22%. …

Shut The Door - Jonathan Pickens
Jonathan Pickens, 2026-07-07

… I wanna read the context of what he's writing together in Matthew 6, verses one through 18. We'll start with verse one here. Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward with your father in heaven. So, whenever you give to the poor, don't sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets to be applauded by people. But truly, I tell you, they have their reward. But when you give to the poor, don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing so that your giving may be in secret and your father who sees in secret will reward you. Whenever you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites because they love to pray standing in synagogues on the street corner to be seen by people. But truly I tell you, they've received their reward. But when you pray, go into your private room, shut your door, that's our word, and pray to your father who's in secret and your father who sees in secret will reward you. …

Well, I feel the need to begin my message with a bit of a confession. And that is, I've never played a game of soccer in my entire life. Now, I know that you're looking at me and saying, but you're here to talk about soccer and how it relates to my life of faith. What do you have to share? Well, I can tell you that this is not only the first. It will be one of many and certainly will not be the last time that my kids know more than I do. because you see, my kids have played a lot of soccer. I thought it might be actually fun to share a couple of pictures of them. First you'll see, this is a picture of my son, Freddie. This is when he was a little guy. He was playing soccer at the field across from our house. And then maybe my favorite soccer picture of all, this is my daughter, Poppy. And she is dressed in a cat costume because why not? …

… as it is in heaven. So that leads to the next phrase. Let's say it together. Give us this day our daily bread. Give us this day our daily bread. I don't know about you, but I don't really need God to give me my daily bread because I have it. Like our pantry, we have enough food in the pantry. We're doing fine. The other day I was sitting working on this sermon, went over, made two pieces of toast and peanut butter and jelly on them and some potato chips. And I, you know, I thank God for my food, but you know, I didn't really need God to miraculously put it on my table. But there are people in Kansas City who actually need that kind of help. And not just in Kansas City. We know, of course, we've got a team in Malawi right now. We've got, I mean, there are just people who are in need of God's help in providing their daily bread. And so I think about this and the data that we have, you know, the last data we have from the USDA goes to 2024, because after 2024, starting in 2025, they no longer report on the number of people who are food insecure. …

… to come before my father first of all it doesn't remove from me the responsibility to pray for my daily needs here it says give us this day our daily bread so the very next verse is he gives the assignment to pray for our daily needs so it's not he knows what you need so don't pray he doesn't say that he says he knows what you need so come before him as a father who does not need to be persuaded to take care of his children. Be a part of the ever evolving economy of heaven where in your partnership, you make agreement to see the release of his supply and his abundance. But it comes from the heart of a father who's looking for the needs of his children. He's not the manager of an orphanage, the caretaker of an orphanage, making sure that you have three meals and a cot to sleep on, a coat to wear in the winter. He's not someone who just basically takes care of your needs, but your wants is something else. …

… over the coming weeks. I'd like to invite you, if you brought your Bible with you today, to turn to Matthew chapter 5. We're going to look at verses 3 through 12. But before we jump into that, I want to mention that right before this happens, Jesus is beginning his public ministry in chapter 4, the end of chapter 4. And Matthew tells us that the people who came to see him were the paralytics, the epileptics, the people who were demon-possessed, the people who struggled with mental illness, the people who were broken, hurting, the sinners and the tax collectors. And Jesus preached the good news of the kingdom to them, and he healed their sicknesses. So these were the people that Jesus, you know, was hanging around with. These were the losers, the nobodies, the misfits. These were the people who came to Jesus, which gives you some background as to why he says what he says in Matthew chapter 5, the Beatitudes. These were the people who were hurting the downcast, and now he's going to speak about their blessedness and our blessedness as well. …

When You Don’t Feel Like Praying
Guest speaker, 2026-03-29 · Scripture reading

… Let it be real to you. Let's pray it together. Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Amen. You may be seated. So in week one, Pastor Josh talked to us about how prayer is simply talking with our Heavenly Father. And in week two, Pastor Sam shared with us that prayer is submitting to our Holy King. And in our final week, I want to share with you how prayer is simply how we live in complete dependence on our heavenly father. And we see this in scripture in 1 Thessalonians 5, 16 through 18. Look at this verse with me. It says, rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances. What is it? It's God's will for you in Christ Jesus. We want to know God's will. But what's interesting is that we see the pray continually. I have it in yellow here, but if you look at what else is being told to us, that is God's will, rejoicing and giving thanks always in all circumstances, that is all prayer, because prayer is worshiping God, prayer is thanking Him, and prayer is petitioning Him, and so this whole verse is basically saying to commune with God, talk to God, let him be your life. If you are in Christ as a believer, …

… Part of our task is to try to not only pray, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, but it's actually lived that way, to go about our daily lives producing fruit that helps the world that we live in look more like the kingdom of God. I'm reminded in Hebrews chapter 11, these words, this is the great faith chapter. And the author of Hebrews is saying in here, he's describing all these great saints of old who had deep faith and trusted in God. And then he says this, he says, they confessed that they were strangers and immigrants on earth. That is that this is not their final home. They are longing for a better country that is a heavenly one, a better country, a heavenly one. So we know that we live here, but we are strangers in a strange land. We are immigrants or foreigners here. We're gonna live here our entire lives. We're gonna make the best of it. …

Don't Let The Attack Distract You
Steven Furtick, 2026-01-12 · Scripture reading

… What an honor. I'll be sharing today from the parable of the seed in Matthew chapter 13, verses 24 through 30. Now, this is not the parable that's normally called the parable of the seeds. The parable of the seeds we hear more about is actually the parable of the soils. Because Jesus taught these parables, he would go out and he would give a teaching. On one level it would sound simple, but you reflect on it and you pray about it, and it It really helps you to see what the kingdom of God is like, and it helps you to see what you're like. One of those parables that has helped me so much through the year… He talks about a seed that was sown in four different places. One was sown on rocky soil, so because the soil was too rocky, the bird came and snatched it up. That seed got snatched, so it didn't do what it was supposed to do. Then there was one seed that was sown in a place where it was scorched by the sun, which represents the trials of life. Since it didn't have a root or a foundation, the sun was too strong for it, and it got cooked up before it could come forth. I said it got cooked up before it could come forth. Some promises God speaks to you… The sun, the affliction, the heat of trial, it tests that seed before it has had the chance to develop, and you don't pass the test. …

And every year I enjoy hearing it sung on Candlelight Christmas Eve. It happens after the sermon and before the passing of the candlelight. And because I've been here 35 years, this will be my 36th Christmas Eve as your pastor. and I often will have eight or nine services that I preach and I've heard it over 200 times. It's etched in my memory and on my heart and the words and the melody, they just touch me. And so today we're going to kick off a series of sermons for Advent in which we're going to look at the Advent message through the lens of that song, through its lyrics, its music, and we're going to learn a little bit about the song today. We're going to learn a little history about Israel today, a little history of France, and then we're going to try to ask what is this message of Advent about hope and the message we hear from the book of Isaiah. What does it mean to us today? How does it speak to us today? I want to begin, however, by mentioning, as we said at the beginning of the service, some of you weren't here yet, the word Advent comes from the Latin adventus. It means arrival or coming. And we got that name for this season of preparation and, you know, reflecting and getting ourselves ready for the celebration of the birth of Christ and for His second coming from the Romans. So, the Romans, when the Roman emperor would travel across the …

… Your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our daily bread and forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. Do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. How many want God to do that for you today? Deliver me from the evil one. Somebody shout, deliver me. Yeah, deliver us from the evil one. I really read all of the scriptures to get to that part. Deliver us from the evil one. The title of my message today is Delivered Daily. Delivered Daily. Put that in the comments, please. delivered daily. Say it out loud. Say, delivered daily. And turn around and tell three people, God can get you out of this. Come on, tell them with some confidence and charisma. Tell them with some eye contact. Say, God can get you out of this. Put it in the comments. I don't care what it is. …

… Matthew, let's go six and then four. Matthew 6, verse 11, give us this day our daily bread. Now go down to Matthew 4, man should not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. So twice he calls God's word bread. What is he teaching us? He's teaching us that the Bible is our sustenance, that we don't just live off of air one and whole foods. Okay, Trader Joe's too. we live off of God's word. But in fact, put this on the screen. Jesus connects daily dependence with God's word. Just like you feed your body daily, your soul needs the nourishment, needs the nourishment of scripture. You need the Bible. This is so crazy. You think that you're studying it, it's studying you. And when I get into the presence of God, I do it through the Word of God. And this is the only book that's ever been written where the author himself comes to sit with you to show you what he wrote. And when I sit and I read this book, your word is a lamp unto my feet and it's a light unto my what? My path. It shows me what to do. It shows me what not to do. …

… Do you have an expectation? Matthew 13, the same thing happens. Same thing happens. Verse 58. Go to verse 58. Matthew 13, 58. I just want them to see this. Verse 58. And he did not do many deeds of power there because of their unbelief. So sometimes you block your own blessing because your heart ain't right during the preaching moment. The preacher wasn't that good. No, you weren't listening that good. I ain't never heard a sermon where I ain't getting nothing out of it. Because here's what's happened sometimes. Even if the preacher didn't work the text, I fell in love with the text reading it while they were preaching it. And I went home and studied the text on my own and wrote my own sermon. And said, now this is how it should have been. Or could have been. I'm serious. they preach in Psalm 23 talking about making it on broken pieces now that don't make no sense ain't no broken pieces in Psalm 23 but since you pull Psalm 23 and even if you mishandled it and don't make it make sense I'm going to sit there and read it and get something I'm going to leave saying the Lord is my shepherd yes he is and I shall not want and he going to make me lie down in green I get happy reading the scripture because that's how much anticipation you ought to have Listen, if nobody but those of you in this room right now …

The Worship of Prayer (Matthew 6:9-10)
John MacArthur, 2023-06-18 · Scripture reading

… Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. And thinking about Father's Day, again, I was drawn to this passage because it repeatedly addresses God as Father. That's what we need to understand in its most full sense, the relationship that we enjoy with the eternal God. He is our Father. In what sense? Well, we could say He's our Father in the physical sense. In the natural sense, Malachi 2.10 says, do we not all have one Father? Has not one God created us? So He is our Father in the sense that He is the source of life for all of humanity and all of creation. But He's Father also in a covenantal sense with one nation, Israel. …

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Amen. Amen. I've just, I've had an amazing weekend. Gosh, I don't even know where to start. There's so many things I want to do today. All right, let me just go with it. I don't know if you've had those times with God where it's just, you feel so close. Like you're going, God, did I ever even know you? Because I feel so close to you right now that I just wonder if I've even been praying for the last year. Because this is like at another level. You ever have those times where your mind is clear and it's like, oh my gosh, I am in the presence of God. I'm acknowledging no one else. …
