Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Therefore I tell you, don’t be anxious for your life: what you will eat, or what you will drink; nor yet for your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Therefore I say unto you, Be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than the food, and the body than the raiment?

… What Jesus Says About Worry and Anxiety. Matthew chapter 6 starting in verse 25. I say to you to not worry about everyday life. Whether you have enough food and drink or clothes to wear. Isn't life more than food and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, but your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren't you more valuable to Him than they are? Can you, with all of your worries, add a single moment to your life? Why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field, how they grow. They don't work or make their clothing, yet Solomon, in all of his glory, was not dressed as beautifully as they are. cares for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow. He certainly cares for you. Why don't you have more faith? Don't worry about these things saying, what will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear? These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers. But your heavenly father knows all your needs. This is the big verse. Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you. So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today. Wow. …

… that's so relevant for all of us right here, right now. Let's look at Matthew chapter six, starting in verse 25. I say to you to not worry about everyday life, whether you have enough food and drink or clothes to wear. So, if God so cares for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he certainly cares for you. Why don't you have more faith? Don't worry about these things, saying, what will we eat? …

They neither toil nor spin. Yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, you of little faith? …

… Verse 22, then Jesus said to his disciples, therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or your body or what you will wear. For life is more than food and the body more than clothing. Consider the ravens. They do not sow. They do not reap. They have no storeroom. They have no barn. Yet God feeds them. How much more valuable are you than birds? Who of you, by worrying, can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? Consider how wild the flowers grow. They do not labor. They do not spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all of his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow's thrown in the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? Watch the last verses, verse 33 and 34. Be generous. Give to the poor. …

… verse 24 or 25. I've got it written here and I didn't put the reference to it. So here it is. Therefore, I say to you, don't worry about your life, what you'll eat or what you'll drink, or about your body, what you'll wear. Isn't life more than food and the body more than clothes? Now I want you to notice the therefore. So you've heard this before. Whenever you find a therefore in scripture, you need to find out what it's there for. Therefore always links what happened before. So in the light of everything I've just said, therefore do this. So he's just taught us about what we treasure and about that we can't serve both God and money. So now he's saying, therefore, in the light of that, don't worry about your life or what you'll eat or what you'll drink or what your body, what you'll wear. Isn't life more than food, the body more than clothes? All right. So often we read this section without reading the passages that came before it. And we just say, Jesus is telling us not to worry. Well, really what he's telling us is don't worry so much about the stuff that you need in daily life. …

… we want to be good stewards of all that God's given us. Is that your prayer? Amen. So let's conclude today. Matthew chapter six, go there in your cell phone. Okay. Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink or about your body. What you will wear is not life more than food and the body more than clothes. Look at the birds of the air. They do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you, by worrying, add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin, yet I tell you, not even Solomon, straight out of Zara in all of his splendor, was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown in the fire, will he not much more clothe you of little faith? …

The Belt of Truth
David Platt, 2025-07-23

… Listen to Jesus in Matthew 6. I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you'll eat or what you'll drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air. They neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Do you see this? How do you not be anxious? Here's how, Jesus says, look at the birds. Like, think about the birds. Think, wait a minute. God feeds the birds, and I'm more valuable to God than birds. So God will provide for me. which means I don't have to worry. According to God's word, the antidote to worry in this world is filling your mind with truth from his word. Philippians 4 says the exact same thing. Don't be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. …

… He says here, Therefore I say unto you, take no thought, that is, anxious thought, for your life, what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink, nor yet for your body what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body more than raiment? Now, what he's saying is, and verse 26, Behold the fowls of the air, they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. What our Lord is saying, put it down, number one, worry is needless. but then if, if worry is needless, then it is senseless. Verse 26, if God takes care of the birds and the flowers, isn't he going to take care of you? But not only is it needless and senseless, in verse 27, it is useless. Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit to a stature? That means his lifespan. You can worry yourself to death, but you can't worry yourself alive. IT IS FAITHLESS. LOOK, IF YOU WILL, IN VERSE 30, WHEREFORE IF GOD SO CLOTHED THE GRASS OF THE FIELD WHICH TODAY IS AND TOMORROW IS CAST INTO THE OVEN, SHALL I NOT MUCH MORE CLOTHE YOU, O YE OF LITTLE FAITH? IT IS FAITHLESS, AND THEREFORE IT IS EXCUSELESS. VERSE 31 AND 32, THEREFORE TAKE NO THOUGHTS, SAYING, WHAT SHALL WE EAT, OR WHAT SHALL WE DRINK, OR WHEREWITHAL SHALL WE BE CLOTHED? FOR AFTER ALL THESE THINGS DO THE GENTILES SEEK. YOU KNOW WHAT THE GENTILES WERE? THEY WERE THE PAGANS. …

… THIS SUBJECT, HOW TO WIN IN THE WAR WITH WORRY. ALL RIGHT? NOW LET'S BEGIN TO READ HERE IN MATTHEW CHAPTER 6 AND VERSE 25. AND EVERY WORRIER, THAT'S US. PAY ATTENTION. OUR LORD IS SPEAKING, HE SAYS, THEREFORE I SAY UNTO YOU, TAKE NO THOUGHT. THE WORD HERE ACTUALLY MEANS WORRY, NO ANTIOUS THOUGHT, FOR YOUR LIFE, WHAT YE SHALL EAT, OR WHAT YE SHALL DRINK, NOR YET FOR YOUR BODY WHAT YE SHALL PUT ON. IS NOT THE LIFE MORE THAN MEAT, AND THE BODY MORE THAN RAIMENT OR CLOTHING? BEHOLD THE FOWLS OF the air. For they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They toil not, neither do they spin. And yet I SAYING TO YOU THAT EVEN SOLOMON IN ALL HIS GLORY WAS NOT ARRAYED LIKE ONE OF THESE. WHEREFORE, IF GOD SO CLOTHED THE GRASS OF THE FIELD, WHICH TODAY IS, AND TOMORROW IS CAST INTO THE OVEN, SHALL HE NOT MUCH MORE CLOTHE YOU? O YE OF LITTLE FAITH, THEREFORE TAKE NO THOUGHT, SAYING, WHAT SHALL WE EAT? OR WHAT SHALL WE DRINK? OR WHEREWITHAL SHALL WE BE CLOTHED? FOR AFTER ALL THESE THINGS DO THE GENTILES SEEK.
