… Look at this verse up here on the screen. Matthew 6.31. I love this in the message paraphrase. Jesus says, you know what I'm trying to do here is get you to relax. To not be so preoccupied with getting so you can respond to God's giving. Did you realize that relaxation is a spiritual issue? That resting is a part of trusting. Resting is a part of trusting. Resting is the way to blessing. What a great message from Pastor Rick today. There's something I always take away from his message. Here's Rick to tell you how you can help support this ministry. Jesus told his disciples that they should live their lives according to five specific purposes. He said, you've got to love God with all your heart. That's worship. And love your neighbor as yourself. That's ministry. That's called the great commandment. And then Jesus said, go make disciples, that's evangelism, baptize them into the family of God, that's fellowship, a sign of fellowship. And then he said, teach them, obey everything I've taught you. That's discipleship. And we call that the Great Commission. We believe at Daily Hope that a great commitment to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission will produce a great Christian, a great church, a great company, a great community. You know, I started Daily Hope so I could spread the good news about Jesus, not just across America, but all around the world. …
… Therefore don't be anxious, don't be worried, saying, what shall we eat or what shall we drink or what shall we wear? For the Gentiles seek after all these things. And your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you. Look at the birds and flowers. when we were up in Sedona there was this state park we found and we go into the state park and they have this little theater in their visitor center there was supposed to be an introduction to the state park so we thought this is cool, give some history and see some of those grand pictures well we got in there and the video was not an introduction to the state park the video was a monologue on hummingbirds in the state park and it was the driest, most boring video. I mean, we sat there, and first our job was just kind of on the ground. …
… the king, a holy king in our lives. Matthew 6, 31 says this in scripture. It tells us what to do with our worries. It says this, therefore, do not be anxious saying, what shall we eat? Or what shall we drink? Or what shall we wear? For the Gentiles seek after all these things. And your heavenly father knows that you need them all. And then it gives us the instruction. It says, but seek first what? Say it with me. The kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you. See, we have to choose kingdom over control. We got to choose his kingdom. We got to seek God's kingdom. So then what is the question? The question is, what's God's kingdom? What's his kingdom? Because it's different than our kingdom. It's different than the kingdoms of this world. See, what is the kingdom of God? The kingdom of God is actually upside down. It flips everything. The kingdom of God tells us to serve others instead of ruling over them. …
If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown in the fire, will he not much more clothe you of little faith? So do not worry saying, what shall we eat or what shall we drink or what shall we wear? For the pagans, those are Clipper fans, run after all these things. Your heavenly father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. I like that. He's saying, you know what? We got problems today. Why are we worrying about tomorrow? I've got stuff I'm trying to sort today. I don't need to worry about where are we going to eat? What are we going to wear? What are we going to do? No, where's it going to come from? No, I'm going to. …
… when he's talking about worry in Matthew chapter six, right? Matthew chapter six, verse 31. Therefore, do not be anxious. This is straight from Jesus saying, what shall we eat or what shall we drink or what shall we wear? Like, how am I gonna do this? How is this going to work? What's the future hold? Don't ask these things. For the Gentiles seek after all these things. And your heavenly father knows that you need them all. What do you do? But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. And all these things will be added to you. Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Oh, like this is worth a short side note here because that last part in this section of Matthew chapter six is a game changer in the battle against anxiety. Like God guarantees, don't miss what Jesus is saying here. God guarantees mercy today for challenges today. …
… EXCUSELESS. VERSE 31 AND 32, THEREFORE TAKE NO THOUGHTS, SAYING, WHAT SHALL WE EAT, OR WHAT SHALL WE DRINK, OR WHEREWITHAL SHALL WE BE CLOTHED? FOR AFTER ALL THESE THINGS DO THE GENTILES SEEK. YOU KNOW WHAT THE GENTILES WERE? THEY WERE THE PAGANS. Worry is pagan, for your heavenly Father knoweth that you have need of all these things. You say, but wait a minute, pastor. Don't tell me not to worry. That doesn't do any good. Tell me how not to worry. All right, I will. Verse 33, but seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Worry is needless. Worry is senseless. Worry is FAITHLESS. WORRY IS EXCUSELESS. OH, FRIEND, WE ARE TO SEEK GOD, THE KINGDOM OF GOD, AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS. SOME YEARS AGO, AT BELLEVUE BAPTIST CHURCH, WE HAD AS A GUEST PETE MARAVICH. WELL, ANY OF YOU HERE WHEN PISTOL PETE CAME AND SPOKE? YEAH, A LOT OF YOU REMEMBER PISTOL PETE MARAVICH. I SUPPOSE ONE OF THE GREATEST, IF NOT TRULY THE GREATEST BASKETBALL PLAYER WHO ever lived. Pistol Pete, he was an amazing guy. If you've ever watched the film clips of Pistol Pete Maravich, that guy could do anything with a basketball. I mean, he, he invented the moves that the pros are using now in the, in the college and high school students tried to emulate. He was the guy who, who taught people how to dribble behind their back and pass between their legs. He could make such amazing passes that many times not …
… SHALL HE NOT MUCH MORE CLOTHE YOU? O YE OF LITTLE FAITH, THEREFORE TAKE NO THOUGHT, SAYING, WHAT SHALL WE EAT? OR WHAT SHALL WE DRINK? OR WHEREWITHAL SHALL WE BE CLOTHED? FOR AFTER ALL THESE THINGS DO THE GENTILES SEEK. FOR YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER KNOWETH THAT YE HAVE NEED OF ALL THESE THINGS. BUT SEEK YE FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND ALL THESE THINGS SHALL BE ADDED UNTO YOU. TAKE THEREFORE NO THOUGHT FOR THE MORROW, FOR THE MORROW SHALL TAKE THOUGHT FOR THE THINGS OF ITSELF. SUFFICIENT UNTO THE DAY IS THE EVIL THEREOF. NOW, WORRY IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. THE IGNORANT WORRY BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW ENOUGH. THE SMART WORRY BECAUSE THEY KNOW TOO MUCH. THE, THE RICH WORRY BECAUSE, UH, THEY'RE AFRAID OF LOSING WHAT THEY HAVE. AND THE POOR WORRY BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE ANYTHING. THE OLD WORRY BECAUSE, HA, HA, HA, THEY'RE FACING DEATH AND THE YOUNG WORRY BECAUSE THEY'RE FACING AN UNCERTAIN FUTURE. BACK TO THE OLD, WHEN WE WERE YOUNG, WE USED TO WORRY THAT WE WERE GETTING OLDER AND WHEN WE GET OLD WE WORRY THAT WE WON'T GET OLDER. AND SO WE JUST CONTINUE TO WORRY. AND, IT, IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO WE ARE AND WHAT CATEGORY WE ARE, WE CAN FIND SOMETHING TO WORRY ABOUT. NOW WHEN OUR LORD SAYS, TAKE NO THOUGHT, THE WORD FOR THOUGHT THERE IS A WORD THAT, UH, MAYBE TRANSLATED WORRY. IT'S A ROOT WORD WHICH MEANS TO DIVIDE. THAT IS, WORRY DIVIDES OUR MINDS. IT IS A DISTRACTING THING. IT IS A DIVIDING THING. AND YOU …
