… maybe you can get Jesus. Matthew chapter seven, verse 24. Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on a rock. And the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat on the house. But it did not fall because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like foolish men who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat against the house and it fell. and great was the fall of it. And so Jesus is saying, if you follow me, you solid, you're going to be all right. Doesn't matter what comes, you're going to be good. But if you don't, if you listen to me and you walk away and you want to do your own thing, then watch yourself fall, it's going to crumble. …
… the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gave this summary statement in Matthew 7. Whoever hears these words of mine and puts them into practice, he is a wise man who builds his house on the rock. And the rain came down, and the streams rose, and the winds blew, and beat against the house, but it did not fall. because its foundation was on the rock. But then Christ goes on to say, whoever hears these sayings of mine and does not put them into practice, he is a foolish man who builds his house on the sand. And the rain came down and the streams rose and it fell with a great crash. Look, every life is gonna be tested. Every one of us is gonna face storms in life as followers of Jesus. So make sure you're built on the right foundation which is a relationship with Jesus himself and of course on God's word. Don't build your Christian experience on experience. Don't build your faith on your fickle emotions. …
… Number two, every house is built on something. Matthew chapter seven, verses 24 through 27 says this. The rain came down, the streams rose, the winds blew, and beat against that house. Yet it did not fall because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. … and that's what he desires to do to every single person in the room in our different locations this morning. If you have your scripture, you can turn to Matthew chapter seven, verse 24. We're going to read through verse 29. This is what the word of the Lord says. It says, therefore, anyone who hears, somebody say hears, say it like you're awake. Say hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Someone say rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, the winds blew and beat against that house. Yet it did not fall because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, the winds blew. and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash. Verse 28, when Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority and not as their teachers of the law. Before we dive too deeply into this text, I want to take a look at verse 28 and 29, and that is the reality. Keep in mind, they're amazed at the whole teaching, the whole Sermon on the Mount from Matthew chapter 5 to Matthew chapter 7. …
… Listen as if you've never heard it before. It's recorded in Matthew chapter 7, verses 24 through 29. I'll be reading it from the New Living Translation. Matthew chapter 7, verse 24 begins, Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise. like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won't collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn't obey it is foolish like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash. When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching. For he taught with real authority, quite unlike their teachers of religious law. Few things are more memorable than a good story. It's funny, we can forget the details of information and data that has to do with the abstract, but somehow our minds never fully release a great story. …
… this is the final words of the Sermon on the Mount. Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall because it had been founded on rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat against that house. and it fell and great was its fall. And so he's asking us, what's the foundation you're building your life on? And so what he's challenging us to do is to build our life on him and what he has taught us in the Sermon on the Mount. To do all of these things we just learned about. And when you build your life on Jesus and not on yourself and your own ambition, not on anybody else, not on any other set of ideas, except for the ideas that Jesus offers us, you're gonna find that you're building on a firm foundation when you build your life on Jesus and on his words in the Sermon on the Mount. …
… You'll see why I call it a foundational scripture in just a moment. Matthew chapter 7, verses 24 through 29, to be specific. Full disclosure, I was not ready to preach yet. I got a phone call from our chief of staff here at the church who said, if we want to preach, it's going to need to be tomorrow. It might not be safe, or we might not be able to do it after that. and so i told the lord i'm not ready to preach you and i both know that i had set aside the next few days to study and uh lord since you do rule the universe could you move the weather that's going to be bad to the days where we're not gathering in your name like are we not on the same team here of course i understand that there are far more pressing issues to the Lord than when my study day is, but I was praying like that. And he gave me my message title while I was praying about my message. And the title that I want to use for this message, and actually I want you to say it to your neighbor, look at him and say, you are more ready than you recognize. …
… in righteousness, in freedom, and in wholeness. Come on, clap if that's your prayer today. Matthew chapter 7, verse 24, Jesus speaking. Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice, he is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose up, the winds blew, beat against that house. It did not fall because it had its foundation on the what? The rock, the rock, the word of God. See, I wanna tell you, you are either in a storm, coming out of a storm or preparing for a storm. But just a heads up, storm's gonna happen. The more I learn about God and I live for God, the more I'm prepared for whatever a doctor says, whatever the economy says, whatever some hater's gonna say, whatever some friend does, I am living for. Come on, clap if you believe it today. So not just anybody can learn. Anybody can learn. Anybody can learn stuff. Anybody can learn. Learn that verse, John 3, 16. Learn that truth. …
… As our Lord was concluding the Sermon on the Mount, He brought it all to a graphic illustration. Matthew 7, verse 24, Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house, and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, the flood came, the winds blew and slammed against the house, and it fell, and great was its fall. The final chapter on your life, whether you have stood or whether you have fallen, is going to be determined by how you approach Scripture. Do you hear His words and do them? Here is the path of blessing. Our Lord, we thank You for such a wonderful morning, so rich on so many levels, including the sweet fellowship we have with one another, just being together. …
Depart from me, You who practice lawlessness. Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house, and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and slammed against that house, and it fell, and great was its fall. You have here a very definitive section of instruction from our Lord. It simplifies the complexity of religion, and religion on its surface can be very complicated, and the number of religions and the nuances of religions and the forms and iterations of religion are confusing, to put it mildly. But what you have here is a very simple revelation that there are only two religions. …
… the foolish man's house who built on sand. It says the rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon the house. Here it is. Here it is. You and I can't control nature. If we could, life would be a whole lot easier, wouldn't it? Watch this. You can't control nature. You cannot control the location. You cannot control the duration. And you cannot control the saturation. Too fast? You can't control the location. You can't control the duration. And you can't control the saturation. Come on. I'm going to say it until you get it. Say, I can't control the location. I can't control the duration and I can't control the saturation what do you mean? number one I can't control the location that's who it hits I can't control the duration that's how long the storm hits I can't control the saturation that's how hard it hits I can't control how long it hits who it hits and how hard it hits because if we could control all of that I wouldn't have to ask you can you stand the rain because every day of your life we would pick sunny weather but you cannot control nature you don't get to control certain sicknesses in your body. …

HE BUILT HIS HOUSE UPON A ROCK, AND THE RAIN DESCENDED, AND THE FLOODS CAME, AND THE And the winds blew. But what happened? Look at it again. And they beat upon that house, but it didn't fall. It fell not, for it was founded upon a rock. Now look in verse 26. And everyone that heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them not shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it. That means, and tragic was the fall of it. Now that's the passage that we have before us today. And what a pertinent passage it is. Jesus here is talking about building on a firm foundation. …

GOD LOOKS ON THE HEART AND IN THE CONGREGATION TODAY WE SAY THEY'RE YOUNG AND OLD, RICH AND POOR, WEAK AND STRONG AND SO FORTH, BUT FRIEND, THERE ARE ONLY TWO CATEGORIES OF PEOPLE HERE TODAY, THE SAINTS AND THE AINTS. THAT'S ALL. THE SAVED AND THE LOST, THOSE WHO ARE WITH JESUS AND THOSE WHO ARE AGAINST JESUS, THOSE WHO ARE LOVING HIM AND THOSE WHO ARE HATING HIM, THOSE WHO ARE RECEIVING HIM AND THOSE WHO ARE REJECTING HIM, THOSE WHO ARE CROWNING HIM AND THOSE WHO ARE CRUCIFYING HIM, THOSE WHO ARE ON THE ROAD TO HEAVEN AND THOSE WHO ARE ON THE ROAD TO HELL AND YOU, EVERY ONE, IS IN ONE OF THOSE TWO WAYS AND THAT'S ALL.
