The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its collapse!”The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell—and its fall was great.”And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and smote upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall thereof.

The Breakdown: "You The Birthday"
Rev. Kea Westbrook, 2026-08-26

… Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on a rock. And the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat on the house. But it did not fall because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like foolish men who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat against the house and it fell. and great was the fall of it. And so Jesus is saying, if you follow me, you solid, you're going to be all right. Doesn't matter what comes, you're going to be good. But if you don't, if you listen to me and you walk away and you want to do your own thing, then watch yourself fall, it's going to crumble. And so that's what Jesus has to say. It's the same thing. …

The Refreshing Power of the Word of God | Powered by the Word
Greg Laurie, 2026-07-28 · Scripture reading

… of mine and puts them into practice, he is a wise man who builds his house on the rock. And the rain came down, and the streams rose, and the winds blew, and beat against the house, but it did not fall. because its foundation was on the rock. But then Christ goes on to say, whoever hears these sayings of mine and does not put them into practice, he is a foolish man who builds his house on the sand. And the rain came down and the streams rose and it fell with a great crash. Look, every life is gonna be tested. Every one of us is gonna face storms in life as followers of Jesus. So make sure you're built on the right foundation which is a relationship with Jesus himself and of course on God's word. Don't build your Christian experience on experience. Don't build your faith on your fickle emotions. Build your life on Christ and his word because as you read, study, memorize and dig into the word of God, it will refresh you. …

AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE
Guest speaker, 2026-07-26

… Number two, every house is built on something. Matthew chapter seven, verses 24 through 27 says this. Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, the winds blew, and beat against that house. Yet it did not fall because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, the winds blew, and beat against that house. And it fell with a great crash. last week if you were not here at church pastor sam kelly did an amazing message on matthew 7 if you're not here i encourage you when you go home today go watch that message this verse this parable that jesus said is so powerful and so relevant to you and me so i have a question are you a wise or a foolish builder let's see what are the words of jesus what has jesus told us to do Jesus says, hey, be generous, forgive others, tell the truth, take temptation seriously, choose prayer over worry, treat others the way you want to be treated. …

WHY DO YOU FEEL EMPTY?
Sam Kelly, 2026-07-19

… The rain came down, the streams rose, the winds blew and beat against that house. Yet it did not fall because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, the winds blew. and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash. Verse 28, when Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority and not as their teachers of the law. Before we dive too deeply into this text, I want to take a look at verse 28 and 29, and that is the reality. Keep in mind, they're amazed at the whole teaching, the whole Sermon on the Mount from Matthew chapter 5 to Matthew chapter 7. And they're like, whoa, something is different about this guy when he talks. Now you and I are like, yeah, it's because it's Jesus. But keep in mind, this is the crowd pre-death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. So to them at this point, he's just another teacher of the scriptures, but they had heard other teachers of the scriptures talk before. And when they did, they'd say things like the scripture says, the Torah says, AKA they taught off of borrowed authority, but Jesus doesn't need to borrow authority. Jesus is the final authority. His words are the very bedrock to life itself, which begs an important question for us today. …

… Listen as if you've never heard it before. It's recorded in Matthew chapter 7, verses 24 through 29. I'll be reading it from the New Living Translation. Matthew chapter 7, verse 24 begins, Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise. like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won't collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn't obey it is foolish like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash. When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching. For he taught with real authority, quite unlike their teachers of religious law. Few things are more memorable than a good story. It's funny, we can forget the details of information and data that has to do with the abstract, but somehow our minds never fully release a great story. …

The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall because it had been founded on rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat against that house. and it fell and great was its fall. And so he's asking us, what's the foundation you're building your life on? And so what he's challenging us to do is to build our life on him and what he has taught us in the Sermon on the Mount. To do all of these things we just learned about. And when you build your life on Jesus and not on yourself and your own ambition, not on anybody else, not on any other set of ideas, except for the ideas that Jesus offers us, you're gonna find that you're building on a firm foundation when you build your life on Jesus and on his words in the Sermon on the Mount. …

More Ready Than You Recognize
Steven Furtick, 2026-02-02

… You'll see why I call it a foundational scripture in just a moment. Matthew chapter 7, verses 24 through 29, to be specific. Full disclosure, I was not ready to preach yet. I got a phone call from our chief of staff here at the church who said, if we want to preach, it's going to need to be tomorrow. It might not be safe, or we might not be able to do it after that. and so i told the lord i'm not ready to preach you and i both know that i had set aside the next few days to study and uh lord since you do rule the universe could you move the weather that's going to be bad to the days where we're not gathering in your name like are we not on the same team here of course i understand that there are far more pressing issues to the Lord than when my study day is, but I was praying like that. And he gave me my message title while I was praying about my message. And the title that I want to use for this message, and actually I want you to say it to your neighbor, look at him and say, you are more ready than you recognize. …

The Sword of the Spirit
David Platt, 2025-09-03

… who built his house on the sand and the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat against that house and it fell and great was the fall of it. Jesus says hearing my word and not doing them doesn't just lead to deception. It leads to destruction. Great destruction. So there's a way to read the Bible. Listen to a sermon right now that leads to your deception and destruction. That's what Satan wants. He's working to do it right now. This is why we must ask every time we hear or read God's word, how does this apply to my life? And then put it into practice, which leads to pray. So we're gonna talk more about prayer and spiritual warfare next week. But suffice to say, this is how we fight spiritual battle in prayer, with God's word. P-R-A-Y, praise. That's spiritual battle. When you get on your face alone with God, when you come into a gathering like this and lift your hands and sing out to God, this is spiritual warfare. …

The Only Way to Heaven (Matthew 7:13-27)
John MacArthur, 2023-04-30 · Scripture reading

… wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house, and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and slammed against that house, and it fell, and great was its fall. You have here a very definitive section of instruction from our Lord. It simplifies the complexity of religion, and religion on its surface can be very complicated, and the number of religions and the nuances of religions and the forms and iterations of religion are confusing, to put it mildly. But what you have here is a very simple revelation that there are only two religions. There is one connected to the narrow gate, and one to the wide gate. …

Can You Stand The Rain? Rev. Reginald W. Sharpe Jr Wednesday, August 10, 2022
Pastor Reginald W. Sharpe Jr., 2022-08-10 · Scripture reading

… the foolish man's house who built on sand. It says the rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon the house. Here it is. Here it is. You and I can't control nature. If we could, life would be a whole lot easier, wouldn't it? Watch this. You can't control nature. You cannot control the location. You cannot control the duration. And you cannot control the saturation. Too fast? You can't control the location. You can't control the duration. And you can't control the saturation. Come on. I'm going to say it until you get it. Say, I can't control the location. I can't control the duration and I can't control the saturation what do you mean? number one I can't control the location that's who it hits I can't control the duration that's how long the storm hits I can't control the saturation that's how hard it hits I can't control how long it hits who it hits and how hard it hits because if we could control all of that I wouldn't have to ask you can you stand the rain because every day of your life we would pick sunny weather but you cannot control nature you don't get to control certain sicknesses in your body. …

… THEM. I WILL LIKEN HIM UNTO A WISE MAN, WHICH BUILT HIS HOUSE UPON A R-O-C-K ROCK. HE BUILT HIS HOUSE UPON A ROCK, AND THE RAIN DESCENDED, AND THE FLOODS CAME, AND THE And the winds blew. But what happened? Look at it again. And they beat upon that house, but it didn't fall. It fell not, for it was founded upon a rock. Now look in verse 26. And everyone that heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them not shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it. That means, and tragic was the fall of it. Now that's the passage that we have before us today. And what a pertinent passage it is. Jesus here is talking about building on a firm foundation. And friend, if the bottom has fallen out of your life, you had better go back and examine the foundation. …
