Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye but fail to notice the beam in your own eye?Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but don’t consider the beam that is in your own eye?And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

… a lot of potential there but we see a lot of pigology and Jesus is driving at that you know Matthew 7 verses 1 through 6 that section of scripture has got to be the non-christians most favorite section of scripture to quote. Now they quoted it out of context, but how many times have you heard people say, hey man, don't judge. That's what Jesus said. Hey, don't, you're judging me. Don't judge me. Those are common phrases. You know, God said don't judge. Well, Jesus did not say that in Matthew 7 verses one through six. He said that we are to judge in a compassionate way using our discernment and wisdom. For example, think about all the judgments you made just today. From how you got to fellowship church, to your clothing, to the judgment call of what you had for breakfast, your kids. I mean, everything we do is judgment. is judgment. So Jesus is saying, use discernment, use judgment. You can judge, but don't judge in a way that condemns someone. Only God can do that. That's why people say sometimes, and this is horrible language, they'll say, God damn it. So you can't say as a human being, you can't tell God what to damn, what to condemn. …
… and he is allowed to do a new thing in a new way. What gets in your sight eventually affects your perspective. That's what Jesus is talking about in Matthew 7, verse 3 through 5. Matthew 7, 3 through 5 says this, and why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, let me remove the speck from your eye and look, and look, a plank is in your own eye. Hypocrite. We love this verse, right? We like to throw this one around. First remove the plank in your own eye, then you will see clearly to remove the speck in your brother's eye. Most people read that passage as teaching on judgment, but Jesus is teaching on vision. First remove the plank in your own eye. Why? So you can see clearly. then you'll be right, not then you'll win the argument. No, no, no, so you will see clearly. …
… Look in verse 3. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? examine get your heart right with God the person that you need to be the hardest on is you the person that you need to be the most merciful to is me and the person sitting next to you and the people in your family but consider is there a log in your eye today is there sin unconfessed unrepentant of be done with it I'm light years from perfection but there's no sin that I harbor I would be a sheer unmitigated fool to stand up here and try to preach with a heart that's not clean and not pure but daily I examine my heart, my life and ask the Lord to help me to examine, search me oh God and know my heart, try me and know my ways and see if there be some wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting. …
… And with what measure ye meet, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, and considereth not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye. And the mote here means like a speck of sawdust. And behold, a beam, that is a log, is in thine own eye, thou hypocrite. First cast out the beam out of thine own eye, and then thou shalt see clearly to cast the mote out of thy brother's eye. Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine lest they trample them under their feet and turn again and rend you. The three words I want you to keep in your heart and in your mind as we study the word of God this morning. The first word is the word discriminate. The second is the word tolerate. …
And today we come to a very interesting passage of Scripture. We're going to read Matthew chapter 7, verses 1 through 6 in a moment. The title of my message is a little different today. When Yardsticks Become Boomerangs. You'll find out why I called it that in just a moment. Let's look in verse 1. Our Lord says, Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged. And with what measure ye meet, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the being that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye, And behold, a beam is in thine own eye. Thou hypocrite, first cast the beam out of thine own eye, and then thou shalt see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. …
