A Charge to a Man of God — Part One
Alistair Begg, 2026-09-23

… can live your Christian life without do's and don'ts? And sometimes the don'ts come right up front. Look at Titus chapter 2, verse 11. The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, it teaches us to say, No. No. To what? To ungodliness, worldly passions. Now, what Paul is saying is simply a reinforcement of the wonderful picture that opens the Psalms, where the man is described in the opening psalm as the one who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of the mockers. No, he runs away from this. And Paul is so concerned for Timothy that he would run away from all that would be detrimental to his life and ministry. When he writes his second letter to him in chapter 2 and in verse 22, he says, I want you to flee the evil desires of youth. Run away from that. Run away from a desire for power, and run away from a desire for possessions, and to let your passions run freely. …

The Pathway to God’s Plan
Alistair Begg, 2026-05-15

… that he's instructing his congregation effectively, he reminds him the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation, teaching us to say no to ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age. Now, I feel confident that I can quote Margaret Thatcher from this place this morning. I'm sure she would have been happy if she was here. I don't know if she had the privilege. But this is Thatcher. You know who she was, the Iron Lady. She said, if you just set out to be liked, nobody doesn't want to be liked but if we make being liked especially whichever context in which we move if you set out to be liked you will be prepared to compromise on anything at any time and you will achieve nothing nothing Cue the game. it's a fascinating thing to me that people need to know how many likes you've got how many likes does it really matter that much the framework of life in which we live are we going to be tyrannized by the possibility that those who don't share our views could possibly hate us. …

Do Not Be Foolish (Ephesians 5:15-17)
John MacArthur, 2022-08-28

You have been transformed. Titus 2, 11 and 12 says, For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us that denying ungodliness and worldly desires, we should live sensibly, righteously, and godly in this present age. That's how we are to live. Christ living wisely. Now remember, everything we need to know is in Christ. In Him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, Colossians 2.3. We have all wisdom in Christ and in His Word and by the work of the Spirit in us. Back in Ephesians chapter 1, just notice two verses to substantiate this. Chapter 1, verse 8, well, we can look at verse 7. We have redemption through the blood of Christ. We have the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, which He lavished on us. And then this, in all wisdom and insight. This is talking about what happened to you at your salvation. You were introduced into the world of wisdom. In verse 18, Paul says, I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, that you will know what is the hope of His calling and what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints. …

The Perversion of Love (Ephesians 5:3-7)
John MacArthur, 2022-06-12

Why would you ever tolerate that kind of behavior? Titus 2.11, For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires, and to live sensibly, righteously, and godly in the present age. in the grace of God that has brought us salvation teaches us to live godly lives. Salvation teaches us that. So, verse 6, let no one deceive you with empty words. Don't let anybody tell you that you can have a sexual relationship with someone you're not married to because you're in love and because you're both, quote-unquote, Christians. Don't let anybody tell you that it's okay to be a homosexual and conduct your life in that way and still claim to be a Christian. You, in fact, have another God, and your God is your own sexual desire. You say, well, I've sinned. Yes, yes, you have. I get that. But if you're a true believer, it's not the pattern of your life. What happens when I sin? …

… CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD. THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HE'S SAYING IN TITUS TWO, VERSES 11 AND 12. THAT'S JUST A, UH, TITUS TWO, 11 AND 12, JUST A SHORTENED VERSION OF THE BOOK OF ROMANS. BE NOT CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD, BUT BE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND, WHAT, THAT YOU MAY PROVE WHAT IS THAT GOOD AND ACCEPTABLE AND PERFECT WILL OF GOD. NOW THE VERY WORD FOR THE WORLD, THE, THE VERY WORD, UH, FOR THE WORD CHURCH IN THE BIBLE IS EKKLASIA, WHICH MEANS A GROUP OF PEOPLE CALLED OUT. THE CHURCH IS CALLED OUT. WE'RE TO BE DIFFERENT. WE'RE TO BE SEPARATE. A CHRISTIAN OUGHT TO STAND OUT IN THIS WORLD SYSTEM LIKE A DIAMOND IN A COAL MINE, LIKE A GARDENIA IN A GARBAGE CAN. WE ARE DIFFERENT. DIFFERENT. AGAIN, PUT THIS VERSE DOWN, JOHN 15 VERSE 19, JESUS SAID, IF YOU WERE OF THE WORLD, THE WORLD WOULD LOVE HIS OWN. BUT BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT OF THE WORLD, AND I HAVE CHOSEN YOU OUT OF THE WORLD, THEREFORE THE WORLD HATETH YOU. QUIT TRYING TO WIN POPULARITY CONTESTS WITH THE WORLD. A DEAR SWEET LADY SAID TO ME THE OTHER DAY, OH, BROTHER ROGERS, YOU'RE SO WONDERFUL, EVERYBODY LOVES YOU." I THOUGHT, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA. SHE OUGHT TO READ MY MAIL BACK. EVERYBODY LOVES YOU. NO, THEY DON'T. NOW, I DON'T WANT TO UNNECESSARILY MAKE ENEMIES, BUT FRIEND, I DON'T WANT TO BETRAY JESUS. I DON'T WANT TO BETRAY THE WORD OF GOD. NOW JESUS SAID, UH, UH, DON'T BE SURPRISED IF …
