… John. He didn't condemn him for his doubt. Instead, he said, go back and report to John what you hear and see. The blind receive sight and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them. All of those are quotations from the Old Testament about what the true Messiah would do. well, John, these things are happening. He was very patient and very compassionate with John in his doubt. But the point is that these works were given to Jesus to do to prove he was the Messiah. In John 10 verses 37 and 38, John wrote, quoting Jesus, if I do not do the works of my father, don't believe. But if I do them, though you do not believe me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the father is in me and I am in the father. Now, those are the four Greek words that are translated or associated with miracles. …
Herod is still on the throne, flooding the zone. Are you the one that should come or do I keep on looking? I like that. That's a question that has faith, but it's disoriented faith. And, oh, it's a question. It's a question. Uh-oh. It is a question. Because a lot of us, including me, have been brought up to believe you don't question God. Uh-huh. I was told that after my dad died. I'm 14 years old. His death made no sense to me. How could he die at 46 with kids to raise and a wife to love, a church to lead? It made no sense. And I questioned God and well-intended saints there at my home church, Third Baptist in San Francisco said, you don't question God. Never question God. God never makes a mistake. I couldn't clap back, but I did in my mind. Well, he made one here and he needs to explain it to me. And y'all can judge me all you want to, but if life hurts you enough and you prayed and God is deafening in his silent response, there are moments when you will find yourself having some questions for God. …
… So he replied to the messengers, go back and report to John what you have seen and heard. The blind receive sight, the lame walk. Those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me. We're going to go back to that verse 19 for our message today. Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else? The title of my message today is a question. What if I got it wrong? You ever wondered that before? What if I got it wrong? I know you can't nod too much because you came to church with them, but what if… and you drove to church in it, and the salesman told you it was a good deal, but what if I got it wrong? We're going to talk about it today. Father, I know what you spoke to me, but I asked God, would you use me to speak it to them? I would be so honored if you would use me, Lord. Here's my voice box. Here's my mind. Everything I got is yours, Lord. Use me in their life, because you know what they need. …
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. May you have a seat. so if there's anything that we've noticed i don't know if you noticed this about this season right now the season of advent the season leading up to christmas um it seems like the season this season what we're doing right now what we're in the midst of is marked by so well so much is marked by so many things but it is marked by being in a hurry right it's being rushed being frenzied that we talk about them frenzy shopping or or being harried in fact the the term hustle and bustle. We've heard the term hustle and bustle. I think the only time I've ever heard the phrase or the term hustle and bustle is in relation to this season we're in right now. It's so unique. It's such a busy time. In fact, I looked, I asked a little internet, like, what's the busiest time of the year? And they're like, now, basically, now is the busiest time of the year. And there's so many people who are in a hurry. Like last week, we talked about this. Last week, Advent, this time of waiting or life of waiting is marked by worry. This week we recognize that waiting, for so many of us, is marked by hurry. And yet we ask the question, like right now you might be, again, frenzy, tussle and bustle, in a hurry. But how strange it is to be in a hurry and how …
Matthew, a one-time social outcast who had been changed by Jesus, recorded what he saw in others. The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised. And the good news is preached to the poor. Blessed is the man who does not fall away. And that is what this message is is all about. God wants you to be saved. God sent his Son so you might have life. It costs you nothing. It is absolutely free to you. Believe in the Son of God who takes away the sins of the world. If you need to know more about the Savior, call us. We can help. Believe in Jesus. Jesus came to forgive you of your sins, and by his blood give you a new life here and in eternity. Nobody likes to be ignored. Nobody likes to be written off. Not me, not you, not God. Let me tell you a story. It comes from India in the 1850s. At the home of the British Governor General, a three-year-old child wandered into a group of adults. There was nothing extraordinary in that, other than, the child was clutching a small poisonous snake, a Russell's viper. …
