… and divides up his plunder. Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. Now pause there. What Jesus is trying to teach us here is that he demands unapologetic loyalty. God doesn't want part of you. He wants all of you. So read it again on the screen. Whoever is not with me is against me. And whoever does not gather with me scatters. Is there anybody here today that say, I'm with Jesus? I'm on team. I'm team Jesus. Like I know what team I am. I'm a Seahawk. I'm a Husky, I'm a Laker, I'm a Dodger, I'm a Spark, I'm a Jesus team. Praise God. Verse 24. When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through an arid place seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, I will return to that house I left. And when it arrives, it finds the house swept and cleaned and put in order. Watch this, 26. Then it goes and takes seven other spirits, more wicked than the first, and they go in and live there. …
II. Now, secondly, anyone who is thoughtful can perceive, in our Savior's question, AN INDICATION OF THE VITAL POINT OF CHARACTER. Jesus Christ said to this man, "Do you believe on the Son of God?" He had been aggrieved by the conduct of the Pharisees. They would not believe him. They had been prejudiced against him and they had put him out of the synagogue—so Jesus Christ seemed to say to him, "Yes, I see how wrongly they have acted towards you and I see how truthful and courageous you have been, but the Pharisees do not believe on Me and that is the reason of their prejudice against Me—but do you believe on Me?" It is quite possible for you not to take part with skeptics and opposers of the Gospel and yet, after all, you may not be, yourself, a Believer in Christ. So I put the question again to each one of you, "Do you believe on the Son of God?" I want this question to come home to you good, amiable, excellent people who never did oppose Jesus Christ in your whole lives and who do not intend to do so—and who are very vexed that there should be any Pharisees who do such things! Still, do you really believe in Jesus Christ yourselves? That is the vital point. It is not enough to be a non-opposer—you must personally be an adherent of the Lord Jesus Christ, for He said—"He that is not with Me is against Me; and he that gathers not with Me, scatters abroad." …
… you're not merely neutral, because Jesus Christ said in Matthew chapter 12 and verse 30, He that is not with me is against me. There's no way that you can be neutral. The decision not to decide is a decision. And so today, listen carefully, you will leave this building on the straight and narrow or you leave it on the broad way. You leave this building on the road to hell or you leave this building on the road to heaven and you say, I will not decide for Jesus Christ by that very act you have decided against Jesus Christ. Put it down in your margin. Matthew 12, verse 30, He that is not with me is against me. You see, listen, there is the freedom of decision, there is the forcing of decision, and there are the fruits of decision. Now, let me say something else. You are free to choose. You're not free not to choose. And you're not free to choose the consequences of your choice. …
