… Well, then how do I have the keys? Matthew chapter 16, verse 19. I love it. He says, and I will give you the keys to the kingdom. And whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven. And whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. ready for an army of ministers after this message to take the authority and the keys he already snatched from every demon and devil and he gives them to us. So from now on in the name of Jesus, when we go into our jobs, when we go into social media, when we go into education, it tells us that the gates that are set up around it, that we have the key. We don't even got to decide to do is take our authority and take it off and everything that the enemy thought he could use is no longer a place and we can go in to every area in the entertainment we can go in and we can move it oh we can take it by force we can invite other believers into it i can say listen government is open, is there any ministers who want to come and be a part of what God, hey, hey, every soccer mom, you can start that ministry right here, get other believers in entertainment, in government, in our homes, I know that there are ministers. …
… Matthew 18 says, Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven. Whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. One translation gives it more clarity. It says, whatever is already bound in heaven, you can bind on earth. Meaning there's no sickness in heaven. There's no depression in heaven, no addictions. So we can stand against those things and we can lose freedom, lose victory. I want to do that today. Will you come into agreement with me? I bind depression, discouragement, hopelessness. I lose joy, happiness, contentment. I bind sickness, cancer, heart trouble, diabetes, inflammation, chronic pain. I lose healing, vitality, strength, a long life. I bind lack, poverty, not enough, can't get ahead. I lose abundance, good breaks, opportunity, overflow. I bind generational curses, limitations passed down, hereditary baggage. I lose generational blessings. I lose breakthroughs, turnarounds, new standards for your family. I bind forces that are trying to get our children off course. Bad influences, poor judgment, identity confusion. I lose purpose, destiny, good friends, clear direction. I bind addictions, bad habits, alcoholism, drug abuse. I lose freedom, wholeness, and victory. I bind insecurity, low self-esteem, unworthiness. I lose boldness, confidence, value. I bind negativity, pessimism, a bad attitude. I lose hope, faith, expectancy. …
… And he asks them this question. Who do people say that the Son of Man is? Here's the opinion. What are the opinions of people? And then Jesus looks at them and says, okay, now this is the moment where you have to answer for yourselves. And he asks them the question, but who do you say that I am? Every one of us has a Caesarea Philippi. Every one of us will have multiple Caesarea Philippis and where we have to give an answer. Now, sometimes that's gonna be a direct question and sometimes it's just gonna be, this is a situation where we have to say something. So I came across this. I thought it was pretty funny. Mother Miriam. Mother Miriam is this elderly nun. And she was telling the story about how before she was a nun, before she was a Catholic, she loved Jesus, she was a Christian, and she needed a job. And so she saw in want ads that there was a diner that was hiring waitresses and no experience required. …
With that in mind, we want to turn for our base text, Matthew's Gospel, chapter 16, and turn with me, if you will, to that chapter, and let's look at verse 18 and 19. this is our lord speaking to his disciples and here we have the background for the keys of the kingdom our lord says these words and i tell you you are peter and on this rock i will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it i will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Our Lord here institutes the instruments by which the people are to be admitted and excluded in the kingdom of heaven, the church. By the preaching of the gospel we see here is the kingdom of is opened and then he uses discipline to correct those erring sheep to exclude those who remain unrepentant and thus the gospel of the the preaching of the gospel rather and the use of church discipline are the two keys that he uses he establishes the church with officers, and we know them to be the pastors, the elders, and the deacons. And he has given to the pastors and the elders the authority to exercise these keys. These elders, these pastors, are the gatekeepers that open and close the kingdom. Pastors have the responsibility of opening and closing with the first key, …
… I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven. And whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them. Now flip with me over to Galatians chapter 6. Matthew chapter 18, verse 15 through 20. And we saw that whole picture of treat him as you would a pagan or tax collector, excommunication from the church addressed in 1 Corinthians 5. Now look at Galatians chapter 6 and listen to what Scripture teaches there. Galatians chapter 6 verse 1, Paul writes, Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you fulfill the law of Christ. …
… whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven. Whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them. Okay, step one, applying church discipline. Private correction. Step one, private correction. If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault just between the two of you. Now, side note here. Some of you in your Bibles, I'm guessing most of us, where it says in verse 15, that first phrase, if your brother sins against you, I want you to look down in your Bibles there and you probably have a little note, a little footnote. in your Bible that takes you to the bottom, and it says something along the lines of, some manuscripts do not have the words against you. And this is what, this is going to be kind of a tangent, but I hope a valuable tangent, real quickly. …
… the gates of Hades will not overpower it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven." Again, this is the absolute high point of Peter's life. He has been honored by our Lord to have received this epic revelation from the Father, a revelation of truth upon which the church will be built, the invincible church. And as a part of that church, He will be able to declare to men the way to heaven and the way to hell. This is monumental. This is high point of His life. And then you come to verse 21, from that time Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes and be killed, be raised up on the third day. Peter took Him aside. He was feeling His prominence. …
