… God you're mighty God there's nobody like you see some of y'all don't get it let me go to Psalms 103 bless the Lord oh my soul and all that is within me bless his holy name see the thing you've got to realize is sometimes you have to shut yourself up your soul your mind will and emotions and tell your mind will and emotions to bless the lord as i was standing there and thousands of dollars is being total total away my emotions started to get involved because my treasure was there and i said shut up god is a provider what are you talking bless the lord oh my soul my see because my mind will take me somewhere and my emotions will take me somewhere and my will will take me somewhere that does not line up with the word of God for me. So what I'm telling you today is that no matter the things, what should we say about all these things that happened in 2017? …
… and to count the blessings like David did in Psalm 103, bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me. Bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and don't forget one of his benefits. who heals all your diseases, who forgives all of your sins. And the list goes on down through verse 12, verse 13. As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. He's reflecting on his past blessing. That's why I've always loved Thanksgiving. First of all, I love it that it's not called Thanksgiving. I like it that it's Thanksgiving. I love it that we can think back, and invariably we do that at Thanksgiving, and we just call to mind the blessings from our God over the past. And we all have them. It's just easy to let the present misery eclipse the past memory. So I suggest we start with a memory and think back. Don't let yourself get caught in the trap of mentioning the things that did not work out well or have not been solved or resolved. …
… Shove your neighbor and say, Remember it different. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. I'm choosing to forget some things so I can clear out some space so I can receive some things God has given me. Clear it out. It's the Manasseh effect. Here it is. God can do one thing in your life. God can send one person in your life. God can send one opportunity in your life that will make you forget everything you went through to be in this place, make you forget about how bad it hurt every time they said no, make you forget about all the years you thought it was never going to happen. It'll make you thank him for all the things that didn't come to pass. You'll say, if I wasn't here, I couldn't have had this. God is working in your life. His word does not return void. He has given you more than enough. This is the Manasseh effect when you say, I remember when we opened this building, and I remember that we were late, but I choose to remember that even though we were late getting in, God did it. I choose to remember that even though it didn't unfold according to my schedule, it unfolded according to his sovereign purpose. I am preaching about the Manasseh effect, because now, generations later, the tribe that is named after the boy who made Joseph forget has forgotten. …
… to the masses directly as much as he is talking to himself. Look at how Psalm 103 opens up verse one. David writes, bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, David says again in verse two, O my soul. Do you see the personal pronouns there? David is saying, bless the Lord, oh, my soul and all that is within me. David is talking to himself and yet he's inviting you and I to kind of eavesdrop in on this conversation in which he's preaching to himself about gratitude. This whole psalm is all about what it means to be a grateful person. Now, I want you to look, if you will, at the location of where gratitude should be. David isn't just talking about his mouth. In other words, he's not just coaching himself to say grateful things. David instead says, bless the Lord, oh, my soul. Soul is the deepest places and parts of who we are as a person. …
… You're not commanding anybody but yourself. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me. Bless his holy name. Come up and praise him. It's hard to explain what it's like if you've never lived with it. Okay, example. Me and Graham were having a friendly debate the other day. It wasn't a heated argument. He wasn't being disrespectful, but I was right. After about three and four times back and forth… I don't remember what we were arguing about, but it was something factual. It wasn't an opinion. So we went where you always can go to get the truth online. After about two or three times back and forth, I said, Well, look it up. And he looked it up, and I don't remember who was right. I just remember the conversation we had after. I said, Look it up. He looked it up, and we were done. It was hard for me to explain to him what it was like to have a time when you couldn't do that. …
… Thank you, God. bless the Lord oh my soul and all that is within me bless his holy name thank you Lord God I believe that we're going to see amazing bizarre things happen in this room and beyond keep moving down we've got more coming It looks like we're going to have one for every person here. Not quite. Your own personal servant. There we go. Thank you, Lord. They're still coming. Yep. It's the... Thank you, Lord. One of the things that we love to do is we love to pray for each other. And we'll be doing that throughout the week. And then we have people that we know and trust that we want to be able to open it up for you to receive extended ministry for whatever you want. And they're not Santa. You don't crawl on their lap and tell them what you wish for. But you bring the burden of your heart. and they will partner with you and we'll just see God do great, great things. …
… 1 to 2, and that middle section, 8 to 18. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever. He does not treat us as our sins deserve, or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him. For he knows how we are formed. He remembers that we are dust. As for man, his days are like grass. He flourishes like a flower of the field. The wind blows over it, and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. …
