How to Study Your Bible
Skip Heitzig, 2026-08-09

… to my path. A few verses down, verse 111. Your testimonies I have taken as a heritage forever, for they are the rejoicing of my heart. Verse 145. Don't worry, we're almost done. Verse 145. I cry out with my whole heart, hear me, O Lord. I will keep your statutes. I cry out to you, save me, and I will keep your testimonies. I rise before the dawning of the morning and cry for help. I hope in your word. How's that for attitude towards scripture? That's the right attitude. That's the be diligent, be eager. that's the right attitude. I don't know if you've heard the name George Mueller, but George Mueller was a man of faith. Could you pray like that? if not, don't you want to be able to pray like that? To have that kind of joy in God's word. We have to compel our kids to clean their rooms, parents in the room. Maybe you've learned a secret that I don't know, but we have to compel them to clean their room. You're going to get a spanking if you don't clean your room. No dessert if you don't clean your room. We'll get rid of some of the toys if you leave them laying on the ground in your room. We never have to compel them to go to Chick-fil-A. Never. If they hear a phrase that remotely sounds like Chick-fil-A, they're in the van with seat belts and smiles on ready to go so does your bible reading does it look if someone were to watch you meet with god does it look more like picking up dirty laundry and legos or does it look a little bit more like eat more chicken David says, Psalm 16, 11, You make known to me the path of life. …

John MacArthur, 2023-08-20

… Back to Psalm 119 and verse 111, I have inherited your testimonies forever, for they are the joy of my heart. It's not a reluctance. It's not fear that causes us to obey His Word. It's love. It's joy. It's blessedness. It's freedom. Jesus said also you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free so we are the people of the book and if you're a part of grace church you understand that you know that we've been talking about that the last few weeks all that God wants to say to his church he has put inside the pages of the Bible. And so this is where we go for everything. We hear His Word, we understand His Word, we obey His Word, we proclaim His Word, and we rejoice in that and are blessed. And it's how we express our love to Him. So come back with me to James, chapter 1. And James is going to give us a simple, very sort of primer lesson on how to listen to the Scripture. …
