… morning come on talk to me they have no idea how you almost turned around how you almost went back to the house and got back in the bed and pulled up the cover but like david i was glad when they said unto me let us go into the house of the lord tell your neighbor you have no idea you have no idea yeah you have no you have no earthly idea i grew up in kansas city kansas uh right i got three folk in here amen who with me all um i grew up right down the street amen sister stephanie from of the harry truman library and the harry truman library is a library that we visited as kids coach grant we had to go to that library uh because and i didn't realize that it was such a big deal to have a presidential library in your backyard um but but but we would go there and i mean in middle school i we made at these three trips and then my mother was a teacher so she was going to take us in and we would go to the Harry Truman Library and and we discovered this library was dedicated to a man who was made president by accident he wasn't even intended to be the president his party was just looking for a placeholder they thought Roosevelt was going to live to to serve out a fourth term they had no idea that within five or six months of the election that a man from Missouri who had no …
… These are words from the Songs of Ascent. I was glad when they said to me, Let us go to the house of the Lord. And then come to Psalm 126, a psalm of remembrance about what God has done. When the Lord brought back the captives to Zion, we were like men or like those who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, the Lord has done great things for them. The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. Restore our fortunes, O Lord, like streams in the Negev. Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy. He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him. Step number seven on the southern steps. The pilgrim would be remembering the 70 years in captivity in Babylon. and remembering that even after seven decades of being carried away from Jerusalem, the temple being destroyed, being enslaved into Nebuchadnezzar's empire, God still had a plan. …
… Because I'm like David. I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord. Is there anybody in here this morning that came to make the devil mad? I refuse to go back into bondage. If you wanted to keep me hostage, you should have stopped me before. I came to new birth this morning. But since I'm here, let the redeemed of the Lord say so. Look down your row and tell you're sitting next to a free person. I'm free indeed. I no longer bow. No more chains holding me. I'm free. yeah freedom is your birthright you were created to live in freedom you were destined to work in freedom i dare 500 of you just to shout i'm free my child is free my marriage is free my finances are free I don't care what the devil tried to do to hold me down but I came this morning to give God's glory that every chain is getting ready to break. Every stronghold is getting ready to be canceled. Where are my worshipers who came to church this morning to get free? Open your mouth. Lift up your foot. …
… Oh, you better watch out because life can switch upon you on a dime, and you'll find yourself saying, I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house. Get me in the house. I got to get in the house. I don't care where I sit, but get me in the house. She is apathetic. And now she's moving too slow. And she's moving too casually. When her beloved knocks at the door, all of a sudden the knocking stops. That's the one sound you don't want to ever hear Stop I said you don't ever want to hear Oh but he did warn us and say In the day that you hear my knock Harden not your heart Oh in the day that you hear me When the knocking stopped She jumped up And she runs to the door Well, I'm talking to one day today Stop playing hard to get with God Stop playing hard to get with God She ran to the door Because see now When you don't hear that knock You don't take it for granted Oh, and when she didn't hear it She got up and she didn't care None about her feet getting dirty She didn't care for the fact That she was laying down All she knows is I live by the knock I live by everybody I live by the knock on my heart I live by the presence of God I live by the manifest presence of God And none of these things matter …
… So this is why. psalm 122 the psalmist says i was glad when they said to me let us go to the house of the lord the psalmist is not being dragged to church by his spouse he's not one of the children reluctantly being pulled into the pew by the ear I'm glad our feet have been standing within your gates I mean they just arrived in the sense of anticipation to be where? In the house of the Lord what's so good about that? Because that's where the Lord is that's where we will encounter His presence in a tangible and sensible way I don't understand how people can stay away from church. It's just outside of my bailiwick. I don't understand it. Jesus says two or more gathered in my name. I'll be there in their midst. We're not just meeting here as a bunch of people who have a common interest. Jesus says he is present where we gather. We enjoy his presence when we are here together and singing his praises and opening his word. …
… as you've thought about going to church on a Sunday. I was glad when they said to me, let us go to the house of the Lord. Our feet have been standing within your gates, O Jerusalem. Well, no, they haven't. There might be some of us that have been to Jerusalem, but most of us haven't been to Jerusalem. So what is it that we're actually saying? We'll come to that. Jerusalem, built as a city that is bound firmly together, to which the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord, as was decreed for Israel to give thanks to the name of the Lord. So when we think about going up to Jerusalem, we think wrongly if we think in terms of height above sea level. Because actually the mountains that surround Jerusalem are not particularly high. There are certainly higher mountains in the Shenandoah Valley and all through the Carolinas than what we find there. So it is referred to as a going up, not because of its height in physical terms, but because it was the most important place on earth. …
… the world. It should be an oasis in a hot desert. We shouldn't dread it. We should look forward to it, even long for it. Psalm 122.1 says, I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord. I hope you're glad when you go to church. I hope it restores your soul. The problem is that many think of themselves as consumers instead of the congregation. The New Testament knows nothing of the trend among many today to shop for a new church as though they were looking for a new supermarket in their neighborhood, where one is on a quest to become more spiritual, wanting nothing to do with someone else. Many people sample churches at the same rate they sample samples in Costco, where it's like a little bit of this, a little bit of that, the next sample, the next sample, never getting nourished, never getting fed, never putting down roots or growing, just sampling. So we have a group who are consumers instead of servants, consuming instead of communing. Spectators instead of participators. Customers instead of disciples. I believe one should find a church where God is honored and his word is proclaimed and they should sink their roots down deep to grow and be a part of the body of Christ. Number three, Jesus' people give. …
… Psalm 122, I was glad. I was glad when they said to me, let us go to the house of the Lord. I wonder how glad we get when we say it's church time, time for church. I'm glad. Well, I think you're glad because you're here. But a lot of people, I remember when my parents would say it's church time, really, do we have to? And of course, in my house, there was no negotiation. If you're breathing, you're going. I was glad when they said, bars have happy hour. I wouldn't know what those are like having never been to a bar during happy hour. But listen, this is happy hour. Saturday at 6.30 in the evening and Sunday morning is also happy hour. The joy of Jerusalem was heard afar off. At that time, some were appointed over the rooms. The next few verses talk about that. that in the temple there were storerooms for the tithes and the offerings and the support for the priests, the Levites, the singers, the worship leaders, etc. Verse 1 chapter 13. …
… It's a great day to be alive. I was glad when they said unto me, let us go to the house of the Lord. I was sad when they said unto me, we're having snow again. I thought we have to find a way to get the word out to the people once again. For the second week in a row, we got here a little early. We rounded up all of the people who are going to be the first ones taken in the rapture. And we're here today to minister the Word of God to you. Somebody put it in the chat and say, this one's for me. High five 12 people and say, it's for you too. Praise the Lord. God is good. Everybody who's grateful to be here, make some noise and thank the Lord. If you are watching online and you regularly attend one of our campuses, I expect your butt back in church next week. We're celebrating two decades of divine miracles and the faithfulness of Almighty God. …
This is a day that the Lord has made will rejoice and be glad in it. Good morning, Alfred Street. That's one of my favorite verses in the Bible because of what it does not say. David said, I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord. I was glad when they said, let's go. Not when we got there. I was glad when somebody just made the recommendation. and you can tell when you and God are tight when you get happy, not because you got here but because somebody said let's go. Anybody glad to be in the house of the Lord one more time? Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Amen. Glad to be here. Didn't have to turn out this way. I didn't live so well yesterday that God just had to wake me up this morning. God did it not because I was good but because God is good. and he's good all the time. Amen. Do me a favor. …
