Sermons on Psalms 139:16

Your eyes saw my unformed body; all my days were written in Your book and ordained for me before one of them came to be.Your eyes saw my body. In your book they were all written, the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there were none of them.Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.Thine eyes did see mine unformed substance; And in thy book they were all written, Even the days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was none of them.

… when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God. How vast is the sum of them. Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, still I am with you. Search me, God, and know my heart. Test me and know my anxious thoughts. see if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting. Before I give you my title, would you just make David's words your prayer this morning? Would you just say, search me, God? Now say it to your father in heaven, say, search me, God. The title of my message today is I left that out. I left that out. You may be seated. Amen. doing marriage counseling together, and it's been so helpful. Every time I say that, people go like, oh no, what's wrong? But for us, it was, you know, we just thought, wouldn't it be good to talk with someone regularly, get perspective, get healthy before something goes wrong, you know, especially as life becomes more complex as we're trying to raise kids and all that. … the depths of the earth. your eyes saw my unformed substance and your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there were none of them. David is saying, Lord, you have formed me. And not only have you formed me, you formed all of my days. He's saying, before I was conceived, conceived, before I emerged from the womb, before I lived out my days, including the days that are yet to come, all of them were written down according to Your sovereign will. It's a remarkable psalm. It's familiar to many of us, but don't lose the wonder, perhaps even the scandal of it, but it's good news for each of us with this psalm to say, Lord, You know me. Lord, You are with me. Lord, You have formed me and all of my days. And here's what's even harder. You have formed all of the days of those that I love, those that I know. It's a psalm to exalt in the Lord's omniscience, in His immensity and in His sovereignty. And with that, it's no wonder that we have the response in verses 17 and 18, how precious to me are your thoughts, O God, how vast is the sum of them. …

… something today that I think is really, really easy to understand but so difficult to apply. I'm going to be reading from Psalm 139, verses 7 through 17. This will be the foundation, and then I'll share a story from the Old Testament to illustrate this thought today that God gave me. Every sermon starts as a thought, so I want to talk to you about thoughts from a thought God gave me, which is, by the way, why I keep stacks of notebook paper all around my house. In case God gives me a thought, I need to be ready to catch it, just in case I can give it to you. This is so powerful. look at Psalm 139, David is speaking about the wonder of God. I was going to read only verse 17 to set up my thought, but I feel like it'll be so much more effective if I start at verse 7. So listen to this. The psalmist says, Everyone standing, please, for the Word of God, if you're physically able. Thank you. …
