… internally. The Bible says in Psalm 32, verse 4, precious two verses here, verses 4 and 5, For day and night your hand was heavy upon me. My vitality was turned into the drought of summer. Selah means to pause and meditate upon that. We're supposed to read verse 4 and then sit in it for a while before we move on. That's what Selah means. Verse 5, notice the result of Selah, pausing. The heavy hand of God was upon him, verse 4. in between verse 4 and 5 is the word Hebrew selah. Pause and meditate and take it in. Look at the result. I acknowledged my sin to you, repentance, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, I will confess my transgressions to the Lord and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. I thank God for that verse. You say, Jug, what's so happy about it? … most of all, the unrelenting guilt he kept feeling, were all the result of resisting God's correction in his life. In Psalm 32 verses 3 and 4, David explains what that period of time was life when he covered over his sin rather than confessing his sin. David wrote, when I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night, thy hand was heavy upon me. My vitality was drained away as would the fever heat of the summer. But then on a day that began like any other day, a prophet named Nathan walked into the throne room where the king was. Remember what happened? Nathan looked at King David, pointed his bony finger in his face and said, guilty, guilty, thou art the man. At that point, David had a choice to make. He could have resisted that correction. He could have had Nathan executed. That was a treasonous act. He could have continued to resist, but instead David said, you know, this isn't working out so well for me. I'm tired of this guilty conscience. I'm ready to have relief from this guilt. And so at that point, David confessed his sin. Look what happened when he confessed his sin. …

… He has a guilty conscience. David prayed in Psalm 32, verse 4, For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me. My moisture is turned into the draught of summer. That is, where he used to be spiritually full of joy. Now he's dry as dust. And then there's the satanic accusation that comes to a person. You know what the devil does to a person who gets away from God? the devil becomes his accuser. Before that person sins the devil says go ahead and do it you can get away with it. After he does it the devil says you'll never get away with it. And the devil points his finger at him and says look at you. You call yourself a Christian. You're not fit to live. You have those people have lost all confidence in you. There's no way back for you. You'd be better off dead. That's what Satan does. That's not Holy Spirit conviction. That's satanic accusation. Here's a man away from God, folks. I'm telling you, he's got a burden. There's a broken fellowship with God. There is a guilty conscience. There's the accusation of Satan. And many times there's public shame. …

There is a guilty conscience. There's the accusation of Satan. And many times, there's public shame. These people say, well, I don't dare show my face at church anymore. If I were to come down there, everybody knows what I did, where I've been. They wouldn't receive me. Friend, we better receive them. We better let them know you're loved and you're welcomed and come on home. Now, why do we do it? Why do we restore such a one? Well, first of all, he's our brother. Notice how this begins. Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one. …
