… It's kind of bad news, but Psalm chapter 51, verse 5, says that we are sinful from the moment our mother conceives us. Embryos don't have a sinful nature. People have sinful natures. All of this showing, abortion, an attack on the intimate relationship that God possesses with the unborn. Do we see how serious this is? This is not a social issue, political issue, women's issue, children's issue. This is a God issue. Abortion is an affront to God's character, an assault on God's work, an attack on God's relationship with precious babies that He knits together. ultimately a God issue, and as a result, abortion is also a gospel issue. So I hope that we have seen the severity of the sin of abortion, what we have done, an affront, an assault, an attack on God, His character, His work, His relationship. Now I want us to think about what God does. So this is what we have done in this sin of abortion. two things I want to point out that God does. …
God of mercy, as we enter into Lent, may your spirit guide us to places we might not necessarily want to go. We turn to you because you, O Lord, have the words of life. Help us to hear what you have to say and grant us the courage to live it out. This we pray in Christ's name. Amen. repent and thou shall be saved. Is that what you came here to hear today? I mean, is life going well with you? When you look out at the world, is it as it should be? Do you find yourself crying out to God in fear or because of injustice? Do you hope that God would finally come and fix all that is broken? You wonder, when will the day of the Lord get here so that we can have peace and justice for all? be careful what you wish for the prophet Joel proclaims that the day of the Lord is coming and is near however he goes on to describe the day as one of darkness and gloom on that day there will be a great and powerful army but it is not to bring liberation and freedom to the oppressed. …
… bent rebellious behold I was brought forth in iniquity and in sin did my mother conceive me Psalm 51 just as sin came into the world through one man and death through sin and so death spread to all men because all sinned that's you you're dying because you inherited sin and you have sinned all are under sin, none is righteous no, not one we need to linger there for a minute because it has huge implications for providence. This sinfulness of our vaunted self-exaltation, self-sufficiency, self-determination is an infinite moral outrage in the universe because it exchanges the glory of the infinite God for images, pathetic, finite images, and worships the creature rather than the creator. We, by nature, treasure many things more than God, and therefore we have committed an infinite outrage and deserve an infinite punishment that will be meted out on every one of you, either in hell or on the cross. If you're a Christian, what you deserve will go on to Jesus. And if you're not a Christian, what you deserve will go on to you. …
… and blameless in your judgment. Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity. In sin did my mother conceive me. behold you delight in truth in the inward being and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart purge me with hyssop and I shall be clean wash me and I shall be whiter than snow let me hear joy and gladness let the bones that you have broken rejoice Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. cast me not away from your presence, take not your Holy Spirit from me, restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you. Deliver me from blood guiltiness, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise, for you will not delight in sacrifice or I would give it. …
