We give God praise for our senior pastor, Reverend Dr. Frederick Douglas Haynes III. We honor God for our pastor. We thank God, amen, on this Father's Day for all of the fathers. Happy Father's Day. Come on, send up a sound of celebration. Now give your heavenly father some love. Amen. That's why we're in our all white today. We celebrate Father's Day. Y'all be easy, Be careful with that all white. I already got some makeup on me. All right. So y'all be careful in that all white, that cream. Amen. Y'all be careful with that. But we're celebrating, amen, Father's Day, celebrating the fathers. …
… And for that reason, we ought to give him thanks and praise. This is the day that the Lord has made. We ought to rejoice and be glad in it. The late Dr. A. Lewis Patterson of Houston used to say, let everything that has breath and good sense praise the Lord. So this morning, if you've got breath and good sense, you ought to give God some praise. Amen. Amen. I must say of the New Birth Church, what the Queen of Sheba said when she finally saw Solomon's riches, the half has not been told. This is a marvelous, marvelous fellowship, and I'm grateful for my longtime friendship with Pastor Bryant. I have watched him over the years, and I give God glory for his stalwart courage, for his strength and for his leadership. I and preachers in my generation admire his strength. He and I served together with Reverend Al Sharpton on the National Action Network board. And Jamal is such a dynamo that we just stand back and watch him. …
… It's your eighth day. This is the day that something happens. This is the day that the story changes. This is the day that the yoke is broken. This is the day that the handcuffs fall off. This is the day that you get liberated. This is the day that God does the impossible. And the Bible, the Bible, the Bible, the Bible, The Bible, the Bible, the Bible, the Bible took the time to tell us that on the eighth day, the door was closed. It was shut. But Jesus came in anyway, looked at your Jesus, who's God enough to walk through the door and man enough to eat fish. Once he gets inside the door, he said, don't limit what I can do. You can't lock me out of your room. You can't lock me out of your business. You can't lock me out of your plan. And just to show you that I'm more than a ghost, I think I'll sit down and have me a little fish sandwich to remove all doubt that I got all power, all power. …
… I just have to declare over my day, this is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it. And when I center my heart and when I center my mind on that, I no longer am believing the challenges are too much today and too many today. And I need to distract myself. I need to just go buy something. I can track it. It'll make me feel happy. A little dopamine hit, right? But no, no, no. I'm gonna sit in what I'm feeling. I'm gonna let it speak to me. I'm gonna direct my mind and thoughts by God's word. Because otherwise, the distorted patterns that occur in our mind, the enemy, prince of the power of the air, who can't possess us but can put thoughts out there for us to think, if we choose to grab them, that mind can be hardened into a mindset. The foothold turns into the stronghold that he wants to use to turn into a chokehold. …
… God makes every new day. This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. God makes promises to us. God makes covenants. God makes laws. God makes righteous judgment. God makes wondrous things, says the book of Psalms. God makes new hearts grow in those who are repentant. God makes peace. What are some of the things, Asha, that humans make in the good book? Noah makes an ark. Ruth makes a family. Hannah makes a coat. Samuel makes a cart. Jonah makes a hut. The people make shrines to worship God. The people make promises too to be faithful. Of course, people in scripture, being people, also craft things that are not so virtuous. The people make complaints. They make deceitful words. They make idols. They try to make gods in their own image. Little carvings and castings that will do their bidding. In the face of these mistakes, the good book cautions. And then it encourages us. We have the ability, the capacity to address human need and to solve problems and to cultivate beauty by making things. …

We're praying for several families who are in the season of bereavement. We're praying for the family of Miss Debbie Beauchamp. If you recall, Pastor Sharp put out an APB to get a hold of Miss Debbie Beauchamp, and we found out that she was still okay at that time. But she had been very ill, and she made a peaceful transition earlier this week. And so we're praying for her family, Ms. Sylvia Brooks, Mr. Melvin Hershey, in the passing of their mother, Ms. Beauchamp. And her services will be here at the ship on Tuesday, February 14th. Wake at 9 a.m. and services will be at 10 a.m. So please come out and support that family. …

Indeed, to him, to Dr. Judy who labors in his absence, and to all of my ministerial colleagues and the leadership of this amazing church, I am always grateful and humbled by the privilege to stand behind this sacred and hollow desk. It's a beautiful night to be back in God's sanctuary. And one more time, won't you help me give God thanks for the brilliant musical gift of this amazing ensemble. This is the day that the Lord has absolutely made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. Jackie sang that song last night and we almost fell out.
