… Every human being is created in the image of God. And David said in Psalm 139, verse 13, for you, God, created my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother's womb. God knew that life even before that life was physically born on the outside. Therefore, every life bears the image of God. And therefore, every life matters to God. And I wanna tell you, every life matters. The unborn child's life matters. The mom's life matters. Both matter to God and both should be valued and protected. Right. So the Bible consistently shows us that the life in the womb is a life that God created, God knows, and God loves. Therefore, abortion is taking an innocent life. That's truth, and I wanna say that lovingly. Jesus also came full of grace. And so if you've had an abortion, I want you to hear this from God more than even from me. Here's what his word says. First John 1, 9 says, if we confess our sins, our God, he is so good, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness, no matter what you've done, no matter how dark it is, no matter how much you regret it, forgives your sins, and Paul tells us in Romans eight, now if you're in Christ, now if you've turned from your sins, now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. …
… Not that. I'm talking about who really knows you. David was able to pin this in such an amazing way in Psalms 139 verse 1 through 14 And I want you to see this because I really need you to know only God can fix you because only God truly knows me David writes, oh lord You've examined my heart and know everything about me You know when I sit down, you know when I stand up, you know my thoughts watch this even when I'm far away This is so encouraging for me because some of you are in here and you're new to faith And you barely just came today because the person that your friends with told you to come and you may not be close to God, you may not believe at all. But all I want you to know is your creator still knows your thoughts and he knows you even if you're far away. And this is the thing about our God is he doesn't want to be disconnected from you. …
… Now, that's not what the Bible says. Psalm 139 verses 13 and 14 says, your appearance is a result of God's work in your life. For thou didst form my inward parts, thou didst weave me in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are thy works, and my soul knows it very well. What are you proud about? Your possessions, your net worth, your balance sheet, the money you've got socked away and stocks and bonds, the business you've built. Oh, my possessions are the result of all my hard work. I work harder than anybody and I'm so shrewd in business. That's why I have what I have today. Is that true? No, that's not what the Bible says. In Job 34 verse 19, we find these words about God who shows no partiality to princes, nor regards the rich above the poor, for they are all the work of his hands. If you have money today, if you have great possessions, it's because of God's blessing in your life. And remember, when you think it's because of your hard work, God's the one who gives you the breath to wake up every morning and go to work. And he could take it away just like that. What are you proud about? Your children? Oh, my children, they're so wonderful. …
… Listen to this. For you created my inmost being. You knit me together in my mama's womb. I praise you because I'm fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. In other words, our worth precedes any accomplishment or merit on our behalf. Long before your daddy had a wink in his eye, our creator redeemer predetermined that he would subscribe priceless value to you. There's nothing we earn. We just sang that. But I think for most of us, we can sing it, we can say it, but to grasp in a world that says you're only as valuable as your last performance in a world where we are entirely judged by how we perform and how much we produce. …
… For you created my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you. when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God. How vast is the sum of them. Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, still I am with you. Search me, God, and know my heart. Test me and know my anxious thoughts. see if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting. Before I give you my title, would you just make David's words your prayer this morning? Would you just say, search me, God? …
… He's everywhere. Then verse 13, for you formed my inward parts. You knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works. My soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. your eyes saw my unformed substance and your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there were none of them. David is saying, Lord, you have formed me. And not only have you formed me, you formed all of my days. He's saying, before I was conceived, conceived, before I emerged from the womb, before I lived out my days, including the days that are yet to come, all of them were written down according to Your sovereign will. It's a remarkable psalm. It's familiar to many of us, but don't lose the wonder, perhaps even the scandal of it, but it's good news for each of us with this psalm to say, Lord, You know me. Lord, You are with me. Lord, You have formed me and all of my days. …
… your worth is intrinsic in the sense that you were made by god created by god the way the psalmist wrote it was for you created my inmost being you knit me together in my mother's womb so before you owned a company before you raised a family before you drove such and such a truck before you accomplish whatever GPA you accomplish, before you climbed a mountain, before you did anything good or horrible, the God of all creation was knitting you together in your mother's womb. the psalmist has a revelation of this and says I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made your works are wonderful I know that full well now listen we I know it's new year new me you need to forget that and you need to go back to in my mother's womb knitted by God In my mother's womb, created by God. In my mother's womb, the idea of God. In my mother's womb, God was the one who thought about my life. …
… something today that I think is really, really easy to understand but so difficult to apply. I'm going to be reading from Psalm 139, verses 7 through 17. This will be the foundation, and then I'll share a story from the Old Testament to illustrate this thought today that God gave me. Every sermon starts as a thought, so I want to talk to you about thoughts from a thought God gave me, which is, by the way, why I keep stacks of notebook paper all around my house. In case God gives me a thought, I need to be ready to catch it, just in case I can give it to you. This is so powerful. look at Psalm 139, David is speaking about the wonder of God. I was going to read only verse 17 to set up my thought, but I feel like it'll be so much more effective if I start at verse 7. So listen to this. The psalmist says, Everyone standing, please, for the Word of God, if you're physically able. Thank you. …
… The darkness and the light are both alike to thee, for thou hast possessed my reign. Thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are thy works, and that my soul knoweth right well. The word of the Lord is blessed. You may be seated. Shall we pray? Oh, to grace, how great a debtor, daily I'm constrained to be. Let your grace, Lord, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee. prone to wander. Lord, I feel it. Prone to leave the God I love. Here's my heart, Lord. Take and seal it. Seal it for thy courts above. Hide me now, O God, behind the cross that in this preaching moment the waiting congregation might not only see the woman of God, that they might see Jesus first and decide to follow him. This is your servant's prayer in Jesus' name. And the people of God said, amen. Amen. I will praise thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. …
